![]() ![]() Between 25 and 75% the button is yellow, and your chance to grapple is the percentage value. The grappling button will change its color, depending on your chance to grapple. The chances to grapple a ship are dependent on absolute and relative speed of your ship and your opponent's ship as well as relative course and heading. If you're less than 50 yards away from your target, you get the chance to engage boarding combat. The grappling button (right of the stern guns) is grayed out, so you can’t even try it – the enemy ship is too far away, probably more than 100 yards – that is the range of the swivel guns. Finally, the accuracy for the bow chasers, the only guns that can actually fire on the targeted enemy ship, is displayed in the box at the lower left of the ship UI. ![]() A half black/half gray circle, as the indicator for the swivels shows, means that the enemy is out of range, a solid grey circle means that the enemy is in range but on the opposite side of the gun battery. The red circle to the right indicates that the starbord battery cannot be fired. Would they be loaded and the the targeted enemy ship within the firing arc and range, they would show a green circle (as the bow chasers do) or a yellow circle (if the currently reloading gun battery is loaded more than 50%) instead of the gray circle with the black wedge, which indicates the cannons are reloaded at less than 50%. My starboard (right) gun battery, which is loaded with round shot, is only about 40% reloaded (indicated by the cannon ball filling in the icon). To the left of the port (left) gun battery is a gray 3/4 circle indicating the targeted enemy is in range but outside the firing arc. In the picture to the left, notice the battery indicator for the port battery (lower set of circles on the left) and the swivels (upper set of circles on either side). You can tell whether a battery is ready to fire by checking your combat/ship UI. Simple enough, no? Your guns will only fire, though, if they are loaded and you have a targeted enemy ship within your firing arc and within range. To defend yourself, you have armor on your ship and its strength can be increased via outfitting and buffing skills. To cause damage to someone else, fire your guns at them or use debuffing skills against them. Like chess, it’s easy to learn to fight a naval battle but difficult to master.
